Acronis has released a new, free, standalone application with the name Acronis Ransomware Protection. The new app uses Active Protection technology based on the company's Cloud AI.
This is a very smart marketing initiative for Acronis. Who would not want a free anti-ransomware tool if it's good?
It can be used alongside existing backup and anti-virus products on systems Windows.
Lightweight (20MB) software Acronis Ransomware Protection runs in the background and, according to the development company, monitors your system's real-time processes to automatically detect and stop any ransomware attacks.
When it detects a malicious process, it blocks it and notifies the user with a pop-up window. The standalone application also facilitates the immediate restoration of files that have been affected.
Acronis reports that the software uses heuristic behaviors supported by engineering learning models that are produced by analyzing hundreds of thousands of malicious and legitimate processes in its infrastructure Acronis Cloud AI.
According to the company, the application is effective for all kinds of circulating ransomware, including those that are not circulating (zero-day attacks). This makes Acronis application much more effective than other solutions that detect signature-based malware.
The new app comes with cloud backup and every user can have 5GB free on Acronis Cloud.
You can use one simulator ransomware from RanSim to test the software.
Acronis Ransomware Protection is compatible with Windows 7 SP1, 8, 8.1, and 10.
