Microsoft users OneDrive will find something more in the cloud today, with the announcement of the global availability of OneDrive Personal Vault.
The new feature brings a protected area to OneDrive that requires additional authentication to gain access.
The new feature works with OneDrive and Office 365 Home and Personal editions. Not yet available on OneDrive for Business.
The new OneDrive Personal Vault folder is in the Microsoft cloud along with other folders, but it is notable for having an icon that looks like a bank safe.
Technically, the Personal Vault is just another folder, but as the icon shows, it has additional certification requirements
Opening this folder from any device requires a second form of verification, such as biometric authentication or a codes that comes with SMS.
The goal of course is to hide sensitive files and photos from prying eyes eyea, so even if you leave your computer open, your sensitive files will be protected.
The bad news: If you use a free account of OneDrive or someone who has been updated with the new 100GB standalone packages, prepare to be disappointed.
You can save up to three files in Personal Vault. To avoid this limit, you'll need a Personal or Home subscription to Office 365.
