It all started when 1984 was the architect and graphic designer Richard Saul Wurman noticed a convergence in its fields technology(Technology), entertainment (Entertainment) and of planning (Design). Who would then imagine that, 30 years later, one of the largest innovation communities would be a driving force of inspiration for great ideas worthy of spreading at a global level. The need for expression and inspiration at the regional level soon emerged, and local TED supporters took over the organization of independent events, TEDx events. "Ideas Worth Spreading"Is their mission and at 8 / 2 / 2014 we will welcome such valuable ideas to our island!

Significant speeches
Talks at TED and TEDx events cover a wide range of topics in the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. In the first TEDx events, speakers came from fields related to the TED (Technology – Entertainment – Design) acronym, but during the 90s the range of presenters expanded to include scientists, philosophers, musicians, religious leaders, philanthropists and many others.
Within 18 minutes, speakers are challenged to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging way, aiming to inspire and pave the way for a better, brighter future. A similar role was taken up in previous TEDx events by: Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell, Al Gore, Gordon Brown, Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates, Bono, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin as well as many Nobel laureates.
Many brilliant speeches left an era worldwide, such as in 2006, Ken Robinson referred in a funny and caustic way to the educational system, claiming that school kills creativity, and Simon Sinek with his speech on how some of the greatest leaders have inspired them around, such as Martin Luther King, Apple founders and Wright brothers and the strong phrase: "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it".
It is also worth mentioning shocking speech by photojournalist Yannis Behrakis the 2013, which was featured as one of the best of 5 last years at TEDxAthens, starting with the phrase: ".. the most uncharted waters are in our soul"
We will be there!
We invite you on Saturday, 8 / 2, in the wonderful Cretan Aquarium to admire important speeches by distinguished celebrities, to reflect together and to pave the way for a new, bright future for our country and the world. For more information visit his official website TEDxHeraklion.
