43 Terabits per second, download 1 Gigabyte in 2 milliseconds

A team of researchers from the Technical University of Denmark used a single fiber optic cable (multi-core ) for the  43 Terabits the second, creating the fastest fiber optic network in the world. Google Fiber in front of him looks like a 1996 dial-up connection from a telephone .

core fiber 43 Terabits

How fast are 43 terabits a second? As he says Extreme Tech, that means you can download a 1 gigabyte movie in 2 milliseconds. When the eye blinks the time it takes is between 100 and 400 milliseconds. So you can download thousands in the blink of an eye.

The DTU team used a single fiber made from materials from the Japanese telecommunications company NTT, and the them is actually commercially viable. This research could (and should!) be used to create much faster network connections.
