Yahoo released an important security message for its users on the official blog of the company a while ago confirming that they have been intercepted information for at least 500 million Yahoo accounts at the end of 2014.
The company believes the hackers behind the attack were from a government service without naming the state. According to the blog post the company has leaked names, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, hashed passwords, and in some cases encrypted or non-encrypted security questions and responses.
Yahoo he says that there is no evidence that leaked payment card data, bank account details, or other financial information have leaked.
Based on the research that is still in development, Yahoo believes that the leaked information concerns at least 500 million user accounts.
The investigation has not revealed evidence that hackers are still in their networks today.
Yahoo, as the publication says, continues to work closely with law enforcement authorities and plans to inform all users affected by the attack.
