openSUSE Leap 42.2 New stable version

The openSUSE Project announced the overall availability of the openSUSE Leap 42.2 operating system.

Ουσιαστικά είναι ένα Service Pack, η δεύτερη σημαντική ενημέρωση για το openSUSE Leap 42 μιας open-source και δωρεάν διανομής. Το openSUSE Leap 42.2 σε εξέλιξη τους τελευταίους έξι μήνες. Η ενημερωμένη έκδοση φέρνει πολλά νέα χαρακτηριστικά στο openSUSE, μερικά από τα οποία οι χρήστες της rolling issue Tumbleweed they already have them.

In this version, openSUSE Project chose to use the Linux 4.4 long-term support core, providing users with a safer, more reliable and more stable platform that can easily be installed in too many production environments, including but not limited to in cloud infrastructures, virtual machines, and organizations.

What's new with openSUSE Leap 42.2:

Among the new packages and technologies included in openSUSE Leap 42.2, it is worth mentioning the Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) functionality, in mixing Data Plane Development Kit with Open vSwitch for faster packet processing, a large number of improvements to YaST (Yet another Setup Tool), the new Prelude Security Information & Event Management (SIEM), the new Btrfs to be more helpful to Snapper, as well as NVDIMM ( Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module) but also OmniPATH support.

Also updated: GNOME 3.20 and KDE desktops Plasma 5.8 LTS, and LXQt 0.11.0. Xfce, MATE, Cinnamon or Enlightenment desktops are also available.
Additionally: Qt 5.6, GTK+ 3.20, Python 2.7, Ruby 2.1, Perl 5.18, GCC 6.1.1, 5.3.1, and 4.8.5, LLVM/Clang 3.8.0, CMake 3.5, OpenSSL 1.0.2h, OpenSSH 7.2p2, libvirt 2.0, and Glibc 2.22.

Applications such as QEMU 2.6.1 and VirtualBox 5.0.24 come as virtualisation solutions, 4.4.2, MySQL 5.1.35, LibreOffice 5.2, and KDE Frameworks 5.26.0 with the addition of add-on libraries for Qt 5.

The new version of openSUSE Leap supports LXC and Docker-based Linux containers, provides mature support for ARMv7 and AArch64 (ARM64) platforms and supports virtualization insertions via KVM.
