Intel introduced its first product Optane 3D XPoint, το σκληρό δίσκο Intel SSD DC P4800X, που σύμφωνα με την εταιρεία μπορεί να εκτελεί τις διεργασίες μιας baseof data up to 10 times faster.
The first Optane (Intel SSD DC P4800X) will be available today at 375GB, and in the second half of 2017 will be released on 750GB, 1.5TB as well as U.2.
In addition to the SSD's speed, which the company says is 8 to 40 times faster compared to the P3700 SSD DC, Intel says it can also be used for extension of memory.
Combined with the Memory Drive found in Xeon chips, an Optane SSD can be used as a memory pool alongside DRAM without having to configure your operating system system or use any application.
The company even reports that, in the workload, it believes as long as the 90% of DRAM can be replaced by the Optane SSD.
In one example, the company used a dual-Xeon server with 678GB of RAM that managed a 675GB MySQL database. The company changed the RAM to 128GB and added two diskIntel SSD DC P4800X of 375GB. Immediately afterwards a was observed drop of the order of 20 percent in database performance.
With Optane's larger capacity, an Xeon dual-socket system could have 24 TB memory, and a quad-socket system will reach 48TB.
Intel announced that Optane 3D will be particularly useful for analytics, engineering learning, and databases.
