What does this mean;

This particular functionality will allow the of Google Drive to annotate and generally work on any file, such as PDFs and images, directly from the Drive preview window.

Extensive file support will allow users to comment on Microsoft Office file formats without the need for local applications and licenses of Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat Reader.

In addition, comments made to Drive Preview will now be stored in the underlying file so they remain visible when the file opens using a local application.

“When you work with a company, negotiating a contract with a customer or coordinating a sales agreement with a supplier, you likely deal with many file formats," Google says in a post on blog her.

"With this update, you will be able to comment on these files from Drive the way you are used to in Google Docs."

Google also says that Drive preview functionality extends interoperability between G Suite products and Microsoft Office by following the interoperability already existing between Drive and Outlook.
