Lenovo: Recall of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5 generation

Lenovo announced plans yesterday to recall tens of thousands of laptops X1 Carbon 5th generation due to a loose screw that can cause laptop batteries to catch fire.

According to a statement released by Lenovo late last night, the company "has determined that a limited number of systems may have a problematic screw [...] that can damage the causing overheating, and possibly put them in danger of fire".Lenovo

The Chinese company reports that the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th generation manufactured between December 2016 and October 2017 are reportedly affected.

The Consumer Product Safety Committee in the United States estimates that the number of ThinkPad X1 Carbon notebooks in the US is about 78.000, while 5.500 was sold to Canada.

Lenovo said that only ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops codenamed "Machine Type" of 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 or 20K4 are affected. Device owners can find this code on a sticker on the back of the device.

If you are interested in the issue, Lenovo has it create a website where you can enter the serial number of your device and find out if you need to contact a Lenovo representative to replace your device.
