Windows 10 April: Have you lost your desktop?

24/05/2018 23:48 by giorgos

The Windows 10 Update 1803 has an error that does not allow you to view your desktop. The Microsoft operating system seems unable to find (on some systems) the C: \ windows \ system32 \ config \ systemprofile \ desktop folder.desktop - Windows 10 April: lost your desktop?

This error, as we said above, does not allow you to access your desktop, and it may appear if you update an earlier version and after a clean installation.

Below we will see two different ways to fix the bug:

1. Press the two Win + R keys together to open RUN. Type cmd.exe and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open the command line with administrator privileges.
Type the following command and press enter.

control userpasswords2

The command will open its "User Accounts" window. Add a new user by clicking the Add button. You can add a local user or someone with a Microsoft account.
Once you have added the user, restart Windows and log in to the new account. It's the easiest way to avoid losing your files and not having to re-install your apps.

2. If the above method doesn't work, you have two options but you may lose files and applications on your system. You will need to create a Windows 10 installation disc.

use it bootable media creation tool and create a USB that can install Windows 10. Run it on your computer, and it will ask you if you want to upgrade your current installation. Select the upgrade option and when prompted, choose to keep files and applications.

If the error occurs again, try the previous solution one more time. If it still does not work, you need to make a clean installation of Windows 10. To keep your files, you need to try using Live USB boot to back up the data you need.
Your applications will be lost…
