Devuan GNU Linux 2.0.0 ASCII Debian without Systemd

Devuan GNU Linux is a Debian-based distribution that uses alternatives to Systemd and its components.

The new Devuan GNU Linux 2.0.0 codenamed ASCII is available for download on i386 and amd64 architectures. ISO images can be used for installation on various ARM and SOC platforms, such as Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, OrangePi, BananaPi, OLinuXino, Cubieboard, Nokia and Motorola mobile devices, Chromebooks as well as Virtualbox / Vagrant.Devuan GNU Linux

Κατά την διάρκεια της εγκατάστασης του Devuan GNU Linux 2.0.0 μπορείτε να επιλέξετε τα γνωστά desktop περιβάλλοντα όπως τα Xfce (), KDE, MATE, Cinnamon and LXQt. Of course you can use others which are available after installation.

What sets this distribution apart from Debian is that in Mode της εγκατάστασης υπάρχει η δυνατότητα επιλογής μεταξύ του SysVinit και του OpenRC σαν init instead of the now standard in almost all distributions, Systemd.

The new version of Devuan (based on Debian Stretch) is available in many editions: net-install, live discs and full DVD installation.

I installed Devuan and I am very pleased with its stability and speed. I use OpenRC and Network manager (instead of wicd). I installed the KDE version because of the screen size I have. It is known that KDE DE offers the best HIDPI support.
After the main system installation I upgraded to the latest version of the LibreOffice, Firefox (from the debian sid repo), and I added some extras that weren't there and I use them all the time: VLC (doesn't come pre-installed) Pinta (not in the repos), Filezilla, Geany, and a few others. No problem occurred.

I recommend the functional to those who want to finally leave the systemd and have a reliable system.

Please note that there is an option to upgrade to a test (sid) version of Devuan GNU Linux by adding the corresponding repo, but better stay in the stable version.

There are also images (ISO) for computers with ARM and a separate one set of notes for the use of ARM ISO.

Operating is not recommended for novice users who have no Debian experience.
