Google Location Services: Turn off the service completely

The location feature Google has added to its Android operating system is usually used by some applications that provide location services. For example the Google Maps app.

According to the publication, Google uses several systems to acquire location data. Location mode is one of these, even if it is not enabled or is turned on and not used. Google can get location data through web site activities, but also from apps and other services that run at the device level.

The post gives some examples: when you open the Google Maps app, a snapshot of your location is automatically saved. Automatic updates to apps that tell you about the weather, or even searches that are not related to any location, can store "accurate latitude and longitude" information in your linked Google account.

The key issue with the new revelation is that most Android users probably do not know that location information may be stored in their account even if the site is turned off.

The AP reviewed Google location tracking on an Android device that had completely disabled location functionality. The device would still have location-based data in the user's Google account.
