Linux Steam Beta today's more games

Linux Steam Beta: Linux system users who want to play games have more options today because of a new compatibility feature (still in beta) announced today by Valve, the company behind Steam.

Linux users will need to install Linux Steam Beta (Client) to gain access to the feature that brings games for the first time to Linux such as NieR: Automata, DOOM, Final Fantasy VI, and Doki Doki Literature Club.Linux Steam Beta

About 3.000 games on Steam support Linux natively, but there are plenty more that don't. Steam Play could change that, allowing developers to test their game at compatibility levels and then quickly release a which is compatible with Linux.

The official follows company statement:

..today we are releasing the Beta of a new and improved version of Steam Play to all Linux users! It includes a modified distribution of Wine, called Proton, and can provide compatibility with game titles of .

Steam Play uses Vulkan to view DirectX 11 and 12 and supports full screen but also game controllers.

This is a two-legged knife for Linux players. The new technology will definitely offer more choices, but there is always the risk that game developers will only start using it and stop making completely Linux games. Concern exists but this does not mean that most users will not enjoy playing with more games.
