Microsoft brings OneDrive Files On Demand to Windows 10 on Apple MacOS

Η Microsoft φέρνει στο macOS της Apple τη δυνατότητα OneDrive Files On Demand, η οποία επιτρέπει στους χρήστες της πλατφόρμας να περιηγούνται στο cloud storage χωρίς τη λήψη .

OneDrive Files On-Demand is one of the top features of Windows 10 that uses placeholders to speed up and reduce data usage.

Placeholders, which are essentially shortcuts to files stored in the cloud, allow files to be downloaded as they are used, without having to retrieve extra data from OneDrive. In this way, users no longer need to fully synchronize folders due to a single file.

OneDrive On-Demand files have been restored to Windows 10, having been previously removed from the operating system. They started on Windows 8 as placeholders.

On macOS, this feature works pretty much the same as it does on Windows 10. Here's what Microsoft explains: “OneDrive Files On-Demand helps you access all your OneDrive files without having to download them all of data and use storage space on your device.
When you enable On-Demand files, you'll see all your files in Mac Finder and get new information for each file. New files created online or on another device only appear as online files, so they do not take up space on your device. When connected to the Internet, you will be able to use online files (online files) like all other files on your device ”.

To use this feature, you must be running at least macOS 10.14 Mojave, and have a local drive that uses the Apple File System (APFS).

OneDrive Files On-Demand is currently in preview. Microsoft hasn't said when it will roll out to everyone, but users can already try it out by downloading the client from here (direct download link).

However, do not forget that this is not the final version of the application, so they are still there or other stability issues. More information on how to set up the client is available here .
