After the launch of the Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) distribution, Canonical begins the development cycle of the next major release: The Ubuntu 19.04 distribution will be released in the Spring of 2019.
Although the Canonical CEO has stopped naming Mark Shuttleworth's distributions with very strange names (see Cosmic Cuttlefish), the development team that baptized the upcoming version gave her a strange name. 
Ubuntu 19.04 will be called “Disco Dingo” and will be released on April 18, 2019, if all goes well. The development cycle officially started on October 25, 2018 with the upload of the toolchain to its servers companys. The three weeks of testing of the upcoming Ubuntu are scheduled for February 3, 31 and 28, 2019.
Ubuntu 19.04 will release as a Beta for the first time on March 28, 2019. This will be the only official build of the operating system that will be distributed publicly for testing. After this stage, comes the Kernel Freeze which is scheduled for April 4 and the Final Freeze on April 11, a few days before the official release on April 18, 2019.
At this time, we do not know the new features of this release. All we know already is that it will be released with the upcoming GNOME 3.32, officially released on March 13 2019 and running with the latest Linux kernel available next spring, probably Linux 5.0.
As usual, we will try to keep you up to date with the development cycle of the Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo) operating system series over the next six months. However, Ubuntu 19.04 will be a short-lived branch supported by Canonical with updates software and security for only nine months, until July 2020.
