Microsoft has just released a free AV1 video encoder for devices running Windows 10. The new codec is available for free from the Microsoft Store as part of an early beta program.
The encoder is available for PCs, Surface Hub and HoloLens, according to the company, but can only be installed on devices running the latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
Let's remind you that this version has withdraw from the traffic as it presented and presents many and important errors.
Microsoft says that while the encoder will work properly in Windows 10, there is also the possibility of minor problems in system performance when playing AV1 video. But (if you reassure), Microsoft promised to improve the codec in the next updates.
This is premature release, and you may see some performance problems when playing AV1 video. We continue to improve this expansion. If you allow your apps to automatically update, you will receive the latest updates and enhancements when we release them.
Bolds can install the encoder from Microsoft Store if they use Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
