H OpenSignal conducted a study found that WiFi connections lag far behind mobile network connections. The survey was conducted in 33 countries, including Greece.
Indicative the countries where the survey was conducted is from Australia, where cellular speed is 13Mbps faster than Wi-Fi, France, where it was 2,5Mbps faster. In Greece, the mobile network is 10,6 Mbps faster than a WiFi Hotspot can provide. In contrast, in Singapore, Hong Kong and the US, Wi-Fi connections were much faster than mobile (34 Mbps, 38 Mbps, and 25 Mbps respectively).
Ian Fogg, vice president at OpenSignal, urged mobile networks and smartphone platforms to reconsider some key issues. Currently, a phone turns to a Wi-Fi network whenever it can, assuming it provides the user with a superior internet connection. But more and more, things are different. When the devices of a WiFi network are multiplied, they will give the users a worse experience, always in relation to the corresponding increase of devices in the mobile network.
And all this while we are waiting for the 5G network.
