After yesterday successful landing of spaceshipNASA's Insight has provided us with the first clear image of the red planet.
The landing was successful. Insight solar panels opened and supplied electricity to its systems. The spaceship immediately sent some photos of the landing site transmitted through another visitor to Mars: his Odyssey orbiter.
Although they are expected to be needed two with three months to fully deploy all of the spacecraft's mechanisms, this image came from the Instrument Deployment Camera, which is mounted on a robotic arm.
So far, there are two more available pictures taken by the same camera, which show how much pollution and dust was kicked up during the landing. While the images are exciting, NASA scientists are celebrating the full opening of the 7-foot solar panels as the most significant event yet, as they can provide up to 700 watts of electricity on a sunny day.
