Oracle released VirtualBox 6.0.0

Oracle released an important new yesterday of the freeware VirtualBox for all supported 64-bit operating systems.

VirtualBox 6.0.0 is only available for 64 bit versions of Windows, OS X, Linux, and Solaris. The latest version of VirtualBox that supports 32-bit hosts is the 5.2 version, which will be supported by 2020 until July. Downloads are available in the official VirtualBox website.

Note that the size of the VirtualBox for Windows installer has almost doubled and by about 100 Megabyte that was in previous versions now in the 6.0.0 version reached 200 Megabytes. However, the management process uses the same amount of RAM when it is running.

VirtualBox 6.0.0 can also be installed on existing installations. The new version will automatically read the existing ones . Installed extensions will also need to be updated. The changelog of VirtualBox 6.0.0 highlights several major changes to the new release as well as improvements, fixes and changes.

The new version of the virtual desktop software comes with a slightly changed appearance. Some moved or removed, but the layout remains mostly the same.

Another important addition is a new file manager that gives users control over the guest file system. It includes options for copying files between the host system and the virtual machine.

Other important new features are better 3D graphics support in Windows, 3D VMSVGA graphics simulation on Linux and Solaris, and Hyper-V alternatives on Windows computers.
