Google is testing a new feature that will allow users of G Suite to invite users without a Google Account to view, comment, suggest edits, or even directly edit Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides files.
This has not been possible so far, as G Suite users could only share documents with users who had a Google account.
The way this new feature will work is via a PIN (Our Team Identification Numbers). Google said G Suite users will be able to invite a user via email.
The email will contain a link to the shared document. Users who are not Google users will be able to access the link by requesting a PIN that they will receive via a second email.
With the PIN, users will be able to view or edit the shared file. The following GIF posted by Google explains the entire process.
The owners of files they will be able to see a detailed activity log for every file and every PIN they gave access to. They'll also be able to revoke any PIN's access at any time or see any activity they don't approve of.
Google said this feature was already released in all G Suite accounts, but warned it is still in beta development.
G Suite administrators can sign up for the program, from here. Once access is approved, G Suite administrators can restrict this functionality by domains or limit internal document sharing to only whitelisted domains (such as partner email domains).
