Hongmeng comes with Huawei's operating system

Hongmeng: Huawei recently announced a new brand name for its upcoming operating system that is supposed to replace Android and Windows on its devices.

The upcoming OS has been dubbed Hongmeng, and it appeared in documents from the Trademark Office of China's National Intellectual Property Administration, confirming that Huawei is developing its own OS.

According with CGTN, the application was filed on August 24, 2018 and the commercial Hongmeng is valid from May 14, 2019 to May 13, 2029.

Huawei seems to have been waiting for the problems that occurred recently, and has established Hongmeng as a brand name since the summer of 2018. Huawei executives have repeatedly stated that they are developing an internal operating system to replace Windows and Android. So after the banning of Android by the United States government the company will probably accelerate growth.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump signed an order banning Huawei from using από εταιρείες που εδρεύουν στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, μεταξύ των οποίων η and Microsoft, which provide the Chinese company with operating systems for its devices.

Hongmeng is supposed to replace them as well λειτουργικά, και σύμφωνα με τις is being developed as a platform that will run on smartphones as well as tablets.

According to Huawei executives, Hongmeng is expected to be launched in China this year, while globally it will be available by 2020.

The biggest challenge for Huawei, however, is not to develop an operating system, but to create an application ecosystem that will make its adoption attractive.

"It's not difficult to find a new operating system, but it's difficult to build an ecosystem for it," said Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei.

Hongmeng will have its own App Gallery (from Huawei), so users can access selected apps already available in this app store. Of course it will be a challenge for the company to expand its app store to become an alternative to the Google Play Store.
