Microsoft today announced the release of a version previews of the proletterof tours of Edge Chromium for devices running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser uses the same kernel used by Google Chrome and other browsers such as Vivaldi, Opera and Brave.
Microsoft originally released it Browser for its Windows 10 operating system, but later released for Apple devices. So today it is officially released for both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. There is currently no release for Linux distributions.
Microsoft's current strategy seems to focus not only on Windows 10, although it was initially used to make the upgrade to Windows much more attractive.
Downloads are already available at official webpage Microsoft Edge Insider. Just visit the page and click the download button next to the operating system you want to install Edge.
Currently, only the version from Canary Channel for Windows 7 and 8.1 is available. Canary is an actively growing version. The version of Dev Channel is only available for Windows 10, and the first versions of Beta Channel will be released shortly, so far no version is available.
Microsoft says the experience for older platforms is "largely the same" as Windows 10, and that features like the upcoming mode Internet Explorer emulation will also be available on devices running Windows 7 and 8.1.
The new Microsoft Edge browser differs in many opinions from Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. It has some extensions that are only available for this browser, and it will also support Google Chrome extensions.
Microsoft has not yet revealed the date release of the final version of the new browser.
