New release from Microsoft for them Windows Insiders. The company has released the preview version of Windows 10 Build 18945 (20H1) for Insiders enrolled in the Fast Ring.
The company states that if you are one of the few Insiders who downloaded and installed the "wrong" version Build 18947 earlier this weekteam, you will need to roll back to the previous version and then update to today's version to experience problems.
IMPORTANT: Like all early builds, these versions may contain bugs.
What's new in Windows 10 Build 18945
Microsoft says it is developing a new improved Cortana digital assistant for Windows 10 like Beta for Windows Insiders based in the US. This new version has a brand new UI like chat that will allow you to type your queries in addition to saying them.
The new Cortana application will support most of the Cortana features enjoyed by users in Windows, such as: Bing answers, Assistant conversations, opening apps, list management, managing reminders, alarms, and timers. Also:
Cortana now supports light and dark themes in Windows.
Features a new, less annoying "Hey Cortana" query screen so it doesn't bother you while you work.
The new Cortana features new language models and improved performance making the application faster and more reliable than ever.
As a Beta, the company plans to add more features with updates to Cortana from Microsoft Store.
Build 18945: Improvements to the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)
With the upcoming release you will be able to connect to WSL 2 Linux networking applications using localhost. For example, the image below shows starting a NodeJS server on a WSL 2 hub and then connecting it to the Edge browser with localhost.
In addition, the company mentions the addition of global configuration options for WSL. These are the options that will apply to each distribution in your WSL and allow you to set options related to WSL 2 (VM) virtual machines, as all your WSL 2 distributions run within the same VM.
But the most exciting option in this version (Windows 10 Build 18945) is that you can now define a custom Linux kernel!
