Microsoft announced last September that it will offer, for a fee, support for Windows 7 business security updates until January 2023.
The company will no longer provide free security updates for Windows 7 after January 14, 2020.
At the time, Microsoft executives reported that paid Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for Windows 7 would be sold per device, with the price rising every year.
These ESU packs will be available to all of them users των Windοws 7 Professional and Windows 7 Enterprise and volume-licensing, subscriptions with Windows Software Assurance and/or Windows 10 Enterprise or Education subscriptions will receive a discount.
Office 365 ProPlus will continue to run on devices with Windows 7 security updates until January 2023.
Microsoft also offers customers Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) on these Windows 7 ESUs at no extra charge for three years under WVD licensing fees. WVD is generally expected to be available from September 2019.
These Windows 7 ESUs are not cheap. For Windows Enterprise users and Microsoft 365, Microsoft will provide ESUs as an “add-on”. For the first year, the add-on costs $25 per device. The second year costs $50 per device and the third year $100 per device.
For Windows 7 Pro users, the cost is $ 50 per device for the first year. $ 100 for the second and $ 200 for the third.
