BitIn this article, you will learn how to configure the minimum BitLocker PIN length with TPM hardware installed.
Windows BitLocker can encrypt even the operating system unit, as well as referred to this guide.
If your system has a TPM (Trusted Platform Unit) installed, you can set a PIN to unlock a disc. If you do not have a TPM installed, you can enable BitLocker to operate without compatible TPM and using the traditional password.
In this article, we will see how to set the minimum length for this PIN. Do not confuse with Hello PIN. The wizard refers to the PIN used to encrypt and decrypt a drive with BitLocker.
Especially if you have encrypted the drive running the operating system with BitLocker, then this PIN will be requested when you start the computer. And on the one hand it should not be simplistic but on the other hand you should be able to memorize it easily.
How to set the minimum PIN length to start in Windows 10
1. Because you will disturb the registry, make a backup of it first. When finished, press the Win + R keys at the same time and in the "Run" window that will open, type the word regedit and press the OK key. The Registry Editor will open.
2. In the left pane of Registry Editor, go to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Policies \ Microsoft \ FVE

3. If FVE does not exist, just create it. (Right-click Microsoft, select Create> Key. Name the newly created subkey as FVE).
Now in the right pane of the FVE registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ FVE), right-click and select Create> DWORD Value (32 bit). Even if you are running 64 bit Windows you will still choose 32 bit. Name the newly created DWORD as MinimumPIN. Double-click MinimumPIN to modify its Value Data:
4. The default value data for this DWORD is 6, which means that the minimum PIN length for BitLocker must be 6. You can set the value data from 6 to 20 on a decimal basis, depending on your requirements. Enter the number of your choice. Click the OK button. Quit Registry Editor and restart for the changes to take effect.
The next time you encrypt a unit with BitLocker you will be asked to fill in a PIN with a minimum length of MinimunPIN number.
