Windows 7 Disable notification for upgrade

Microsoft plans to display a full screen alert to operating system users 7 as of January 15, 2020. Notification will indicate that system support has expired.

The company added the file EOSnotify.exe, (in the path% windir% \ system32 \). This will be used to display the full screen alert on devices running Windows 7 when support expires.

What does expiring support mean (according to Microsoft)?

Once support for Windows 7 ends on January 14, 2020, the σας θα συνεχίσει να λειτουργεί αλλά η Microsoft δεν θα παρέχει πλέον τα εξής:

  • Technical support for any problems
  • Software Updates
  • Security updates or fixes

Although you will be able to continue using your PC with Windows 7 without constant software and security updates, your computer will be at greater risk of viruses and malware. The best way to stay safe is with Windows 10. And the best way to get to know the Windows 10 experience is on a new computer. Although it is possible to install Windows 10 on your older device, it is not recommended.

The file runs through the scheduled EOSNotify and EOSNotify2, which administrators can find in the operating system's Microsoft > Winodws > Task Scheduler. The first task displays the notification as soon as the user logs in to the operating system, while the second one daily at 12 pm.

Windows 7

Microsoft's recommendation is to buy a new PC with Windows 10 and not mention anything about upgrading your existing machine.

As you can see in the image above, the popup contains three different links - options for users:

Learn More
Remind me later
Don't show it again

Users can select "Don't show it again" to block future pop-ups on the system. However, if Microsoft persists below we will see how you can turn off the notification from the Windows Registry.

Use the two Windows-R keys to open RUN. Type regedit and press Enter to start the Registry Editor.
If UAC appears, confirm
Follow the route:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\EOSNotify

The Dword DiscontinueEOS value is listed under EOSNotify, double click and set the value to 1.
If it does not exist on your system you can create it (right click on EOSNotify, select New> Dword (32-bit Value)).

That's it.
