Every year, the non-profit organization Unicode Consortium votes and approves a new set of emoji symbols for each year. So for the year 2020 just announced Emoji 13,0 which is the final list with 117 new emoji.

These new symbols will come to most platforms in the second half of 2020. Not all platforms will contain all 117 emojis. Most software developers select about half of the list to add to their various applications and operating systems.

The new symbols range from new facial expressions, such as a smiling face with a tear, parts of the human body, such as an anatomical heart and lungs, animals, such as black cat, bison, mammoth, beaver, polar bear and dodo bird.

There are some new options for food and drink, such as blueberries, olives, pepper, flat bread like lagana, Tamales, φοντύ and tea with bubbles.
