Solutions if your mobile phone charges too late

If your mobile phone suddenly starts charging too slowly or almost not at all, do not throw it away. See what you need to do to find the fault and repair it.

Have you ever had your cell phone plugged in and when you return home after hours, find that it is not fully charged? Leave it plugged in all night and still be at 50% in the morning? Before you think about crying and starting a market research for a new cell phone see what you can do to solve the problem, quickly and cheaply.

First of all, if the drop in charging speed of your phone is due to an outdated or damaged battery, there is nothing you can do about replace the battery (or phone). But if you notice a sudden change in charging speed, chances are the problem is elsewhere and there are many things you can try to do to fix it.

Replace the charging cable

The USBs take a lot of abuse, especially when you use the same cable for a long time. If you throw it around, if you fold it with very tight corners, if you leave it exposed to temperatures (like on the dashboard of your car) it can be affected.

So, if your cell phone is charging slowly, your first step is to try a different charging cable. If your phone is charging at different speeds, depending on the cable you are using, it would be good to buy a new, better quality cable.

If you are still using the thin USB cable that came with it your phone, change it. Newer USB cables are often thicker, meaning they have thicker copper wires and can carry more power through them.

Change the charger

If the cable is not at fault, try changing your charger along with the cable. If you are still using the charger you had from your old cell phone, keep in mind that it does not always work as well as the new one. Newer chargers often have higher output power that can charge your phone faster.

Check the socket

There are sockets on the market that from the classic male plug of a device they can also accept a USB plug. In other words, they have USB outputs to charge a mobile phone directly. If you find that your mobile phone charges slowly in such an outlet, it could be that the outlet does not provide enough power output.

Check the output power of these USB outputs. Some of them provide only 1A current, which is insufficient for fast charging of your phone. Newer phones (with larger battery capacity) usually require 2 - 3A power, for fast charging.

The solution to this is simple. Just plug in your charger and see if the charging speed increases.

Check the charging port

The port may also cause slow charging of your mobile phone. Use a lens and look inside your phone port, using a magnifying glass if possible. Look for small particles that may be trapped inside. These particles prevent a good bonding and slow down the charging process. If you see something there, use a wooden toothpick or a small soft brush to remove the obstacle.

Close background applications
If your cell phone is charging slowly, it may be consuming by in the background. Add-ons that run without you realizing it can cause this problem.

Both Android and iOS have settings that you can check to see which apps drain the battery the most. Open the Settings menu and select Battery to see which applications you need to close.

Damaged battery

If none of the above solved your problem then turn your attention to the battery. You can remove it and inspect it to see if there is anything obvious , such as deformation, swelling, hole, etc. In the newest mobiles, the manufacturers have adopted the logic of the built-in and non-removable battery. Unfortunately you cannot see them.

Even in this case, check for damage by inspecting the back of your phone. Look for a slight increase in the height of the battery. Another example of that the battery is to blame is if you notice that its energy drops unusually fast, even after it is fully charged.

Do not use your phone while charging
While tempting, do not use your phone while it is charging. Leave it alone while it is in the charger. Better yet, consider turning it off. It will charge faster because there will simply be no consumption during charging.

If your phone is charging slowly, we hope one of these solutions will help you. You may not have the fast charge you had when it was new, but at least you will find the fault and not throw it away.
