Google Meet: Google certainly knows how to take advantage of the security holes that have been discovered in the Zoom app and the recent pandemic-induced work-from-home situation.
Η εταρεία από το Mountain View ανακοίνωσε σήμερα ότι διαθέτει την υπηρεσία βιντεοδιάσκεψης Google Meet δωρεάν για όλους προς το παρόν. Η υπηρεσία video callGoogle Meet will gradually become available over the next few days, the company says.
"From the beginning of May, anyone with an email address can sign up for the Meet service and enjoy many of the features available to business and education package users," G Suite VP Javier Soltero said in a post on company blog.
The rest of the announcement highlights how secure the Meet program is and how it was developed with security in mind.
So Google Meet seems to be a viable alternative. Its application is simple and you can use it with a Google account, which you probably already have.
However, there are reasons why you may want to choose something else, such as Jitsi meet, which is open source, end-to-end encrypted and does not require the use of an account.
The first reason is the reliance on products from smaller developer studios which leads to competition, which in turn can lead to better products. Also, Google isn't exactly the company you can trust with your private information data, although I believe it is the app that offers it that is more secure than Zoom
Of course, Google's decision to make a premium service free temporarily is a good tactic marketing to steal Zoom's "shine" and get more users on a service it eventually plans to charge for.
Do not hesitate to take advantage of the offer, as most will find the Google Meet service very easy to use.
But do not laugh: You are still the product.
