Pidgin is a chat program that allows you to connect to your accounts on multiple chat networks at the same time. This means you can chat with friends on XMPP and watch an IRC channel, or chat on Facebook Messanger at the same time.
Pidgin runs on Windows, Linux and other UNIX operating systems. Are you looking for Pidgin for OS X? Try Adium!
Pidgin is compatible with the following chat networks: Jabber / XMPP, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE and Zephyr. It can support many more networks with addons.
Basically the app can connect you to any network conversations that exist as long as you add the suitable addon (plugin).
The Pidgin application is constantly evolving. Releases are usually frequent and come from user contributions such as bug reports and patches.
Pidgin is free and has no ads. All our code is open source and available with GNU General Public License. This means that you can download the Pidgin code and modify it according to your needs, as long as you publish the changes you have made for the benefit of all.
