Cybercrime Prosecution: 8 cases of child pornography

Press release from PPC: The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate and the Cybercrime Prosecution Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece handled (8) cases of child pornography in June

(3) locals were arrested, while regular proceedings were filed against another (5) locals

From the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime and the Sub-Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime of Northern Greece, automatic and regular proceedings were filed against (8) nationals for pornography of minors through , in the month of June.

In particular, following the utilization of information by foreign authorities, in the context of international police cooperation, a digital analysis was carried out - a thorough online investigation and internet users were identified, within the Greek territory, who, using specific electronic traces, obtained on various websites and applications and had a large number of child pornography files available for sharing.

The above were brought to the attention of the Athens Prosecutor's Office and a committee was issued to lift the secrecy of communications.

Following the preliminary investigation and following relevant correspondence with the internet service providers involved, the of the (8) national and domestic ones their internet, while their place of residence was ascertained, where investigations were carried out.

During the searches, a total of (5) internal hard drives were found and seized ηλεκτρονικού υπολογιστή, (9) συσκευές κινητού τηλεφώνου, εξωτερικός computer disk, tablet and storage card (SD).

From the on-site digital search of the confiscated digital evidence of (3) locals, a number of files (photos and videos) of child pornography were found, acts for which they were arrested within the limits of the spontaneous procedure, while for (5) locals their involvement in illegal activity, but the conditions of the spontaneous procedure were not met.

The confiscated digital evidence will be sent to the competent Departments of the Directorate and Sub-Directorate of Criminological Investigations for further laboratory examination.

It is noted that the (3) locals with the cases that were formed against them were taken to the competent prosecutorial authorities, where they were charged with criminal offenses and referred to main trial.

The regular procedure files that were formed against (5) nationals, were submitted with the regular procedure to the competent prosecutorial authorities.
