Managing the free space of a computer is an important task, especially when you have small disks. Windows 10 can show you exactly where your space is consumed, so you can take care of its adequacy.
Most users can't tell which folders are taking up the most space on their drives. It is their applications, the photos their videos or other data;
But Windows 10 Settings has a built-in feature that lets you see the types of files that are taking up the most space on your drives. Without having to resort to preletterthose of third-party manufacturers.
Η screen of Windows 10 Settings Storage is the main source of information about the types of files that are using your drive space. To see it go to Settings > System > Storage.
Once there, you will see a screen with various settings, but what we are interested in is the section that starts with Local Disk (C :), as shown below.
The section above shows the different file types and how much space they currently use on that drive. If you want to see all the sections available from Windows 10 click on the link "Show more categories".
To see more information about a specific category, you can click on it. For example, if you want to see which installed applications use a lot of space, you can click on "Applications and Features".
This will open the "Applications and Features" control panel that lists each installed application and how much storage it uses. As you can see, LUMIX RAW Codec 1.0 uses up to 194 GB of space on my computer and if I needed space it would be a good candidate for removal.
Each other category of data will bring you to different ones displays, depending on what you choose.
If you select categories of data, such as Pictures, Videos, Music, or Docs, you will be taken to the page where the total space is displayed as well as a button that allows you to open the folder.
Clicking on “System components and reserved data” or to “Temporarily archivesAdditional settings for managing these file types will be displayed.
You can also click the "Other" section to see a list of folders whose size does not fit into a specific category.
If you want to see similar categories of disk usage on other drives, you can return to the settings screen and click on "View storage usage report on other drives".
Clicking this setting will take you to a page with all your drives installed.
You can then click on a specific drive to see the file types that use the most space.
If, on the other hand, you are a fan of third-party software, then you can install any file management program and through it you can see specific folders and everyone takes up space, for example with shareware Total Commander program.
