Microsoft has released a new version of Microsoft Edge in the Canary channel that brings support for Secure DNS to the program browsing.
The characteristics that the Edge Canary version brings we will see them later in the Beta version and finally in the Stable versions of the browser. Secure DNS is its implementation DNS-over-HTTPS Microsoft, a technology for encrypting DNS traffic.
The domain name system (DNS) usesfor various purposes, such as translating domain names into IP addresses. Every request made to the browser uses DNS.
Unencrypted DNS searches mean that ISPs and others can view, record, or even manage these requests. Thus DNS encryption is considered necessary.
Microsoft has provided support for encrypted DNS in Windows 10 at the beginning of the month but this feature is only available to Insiders. But soon we are expected to see the new feature in the stable versions of Windows 10.
On the other hand Mozilla and Google have already implemented support for DNS-Over-HTTPS in their browsers. So Microsoft, which follows the development of Google's Chromium, added this function to the new Edge.
Secure DNS is enabled by default in Microsoft Edge of Canary and may remain enabled in both Beta and Stable versions.
To set up Secure DNS on Edge:
Open the internal edge: // settings / privacy address
At the bottom of the page Security section you will see the setting "Use secure DNS to specify how to lookup the network address for websites" which can be enabled or disabled. It should be enabled by default and the function should be set to "use current service provider".
If you want to choose a service provider, click on "choose a service provider" to select a provider that supports secure DNS. You will be presented with a list of providers to choose from. Just click on the empty field and choose one of the four availableproviders: Quad9, Cloudflare, CleanBrowsing or Google.
