Windows 10 October 2020 or 20H2 Release Preview

Η released today , the next Windows 10 feature update, for Insiders in the Release Preview ring. Company officials said they "believe" that test build 19042.508 (KB4571756) is the final version and christened it the "October 2020 Update."

We believe that Build 19042.508 is the final build and still plan on continuing to improve the overall experience of the October 2020 Update on customers' PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence.

Microsoft has released today a trial version for Insiders subscribed to the Release Preview Channel. So they can install it manually but also from Windows Update (Settings - Update and Security - Windows Update and then option to download and install 20H2).

The company does not say when it plans to officially release Windows 10 20H2 to all users.

However, the company automatically started offering Windows 10 20H2 to Insiders who are registered in Beta Chanel. So from today Beta Channel Insiders will be able to upgrade automatically via Windows Update.

As Microsoft announced earlier this year, Windows 10 20H2 will be a small cumulative update for those already running Windows 10 on version 2004 or else the Update.
Microsoft he describes as an update via an "activation package", which is the same way the company used to upgrade Windows 10 from 1903 to 1909.
For those who have not yet updated to the 2004 version, the Windows 10 20H2 update will look like a regular Windows 10 feature update.

The company also stated that there is a known issue in the current trial version:

Those who are in Beta and Release Preview rings and are running build 19042.508 will see an "Element not Found" if they try to run Windows Subsystem for Linux. The company has already developed a repair that will be released in the next maintenance version of 20H2.

Microsoft hasn't said anything publicly about what happens after Windows 10 20H2, but according to rumors, the company will use a new schedule whereby it will only provide one Windows 10 feature update per year (in the second half of calendar year) but also a version of functions of per year.
