The modern tool Windows 10's Disk Management is Microsoft's latest effort to migrate legacy tools to modern versions found in the Settings app.
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced a new disk management tool called the "modern" tool for "snap-in" Windows 10.
At least since Windows 95, users have had access to diskmgmt.msc (Disk Management) to manage their disks, volumes, and partitions.
With the old disk management tool, you can extend the space of a specific partition, delete a partition, shrink a partition or change the settings an apartment.
With the latest preview builds for Insiders, Microsoft introduced a modern alternative called utility “Disk and Volume Management”, which has better integration with storage settings.
To access the modern tool, you must visit them Settings \ System \ Save and click Disk and volume management.
With the new tool, you can also manage the hard drives and the volumes / partitions they contain, but the modern version is very limited and many options are missing.
Microsoft says you can use modern disk management to view disk information, create and format volumes.
You can also assign drive letters, but unlike the classic disk management tool, the modern version cannot expand the partition or display the storage in the form of a graph.
