Google today introduced a new feature called "Hold for Me". The new feature will use Google Assistant and announced along with the presentation of the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G).
With the new feature, Google Assistant will be on hand for you so you can do other important tasks while waiting for a company representative, for example, to take over the call. The new feature is currently available in an early preview on Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) in the US.
However, the new feature only applies to calls made to a toll-free number. Uses Google's Duplex technology to identify standby music and to distinguish between a recorded message and a real person talking.
When someone on the other end is ready to talk, Google Assistant will send you an audible alert, vibrate your phone, and display a message on your screen.
To protect your privacy, the audio is processed only on your device and works even without an Internet connection. Google says it will not store data in your account unless you choose to do so to improve performance.
You can activate the function by opening the Phone application by pressing the menu with the three dots. From the settings section you can activate the Hold for Me option.
