Nokia the first LTE / 4G on the moon

NASA is preparing to return to the Moon by 2024, and it wants the of having a reliable way of communicating with each other. To do this the space company from the United States turned to Nokia.

The Finnish company will receive $ 14,1 million in funding for the development of a 4G network on the Moon.

Nokia announced today details about it , και ανέφερε ότι η ανάπτυξη του πρώτου συστήματος επικοινωνιών LTE/4G στο διάστημα θα είναι εξαιρετικά ζωτικής σημασίας για το πρόγραμμα Artemis της NASA, το οποίο επιδιώκει να δημιουργήσει μια μικρή κοινότητα στη Σελήνη έως το 2030.

The announcement states:

“The network will provide critical communication capabilities for many different broadcast applications , such as vital command and control functions, remote control of lunar rovers, real-time navigation and streaming high definition."

Nokia said its solution will be an "extremely compact, low-power, space-resistant, end-to-end LTE" solution and will be deployed on the Moon by the end of 2022. The company plans to integrate its wireless communications system into the lunar rover. in collaboration with Intuitive Machines, a privately held spacecraft design firm based in Texas.

Once the project is delivered, the network will automatically adjust and create the first LTE communication system on the Moon, Nokia says.
