PowerShell 7.1 final just released

Microsoft has completed development of the next version of PowerShell. THE today made PowerShell 7.1 available for those interested to download.

PowerShell can run scripts on almost all Windows, MacOS and Linux platforms. Starting with PowerShell 7.0, developers are trying to align with the .NET release to better support the application lifecycle. So PowerShell 7.1 was released immediately after the release of .NET 5.0 and will align with .Net releases.

Changes made to PowerShell 7.1 include:

  • PowerShellGet 3.0
  • The Module will get support for Linux.
  • PSScriptAnalyzer 2.0 for a better user experience with VSCode-PowerShell and PSEditorServices.
  • Improvements to the PowerShell Jupyter Kernel
  • Improvements to platyPS vNext.

  • Fedora 30
  • Alpine 3.11+ (including ARM64)
  • macOS 10.13+

For the first time you can download the latest version of PowerShell from the Microsoft Store.
