Gone are the days when Windows only needed security software, as almost every operating system there is a target for malicious users.
Android is obviously no exception as we have seen many times standalone APK installers with malware available through the Google Play Store without the company being able to detect it.
Therefore, installing a protection application on an Android device is almost a must if you are adventurous and do not follow some basic things. Security experts from AV-TEST conducted a new study to determine the best protection applications for Android and the results speak for themselves. Once again, they confirm that third-party developer protection is the best solution, even from Google.
AV-TEST conducted the survey by analyzing 17 products security for Android in three different categories: protection, performance and usability. Google Play Protect served as a baseline product and received 0 points for protection, but six for performance and four for usability.
Most products received 18 points in the survey:
- AhnLab V3 Mobile Security
- Avast Mobile Security
- AVG Antivirus Free
- Avira Antivirus Security
- Bitdefender mobile Security
- G Data Mobile Security
- Kaspersky Internet Security for Android
- McAfee Mobile Security
- Norton LifeLock Norton 360
- Protected.net Total AV
- Trend Micro Mobile Security
All of these products received 6 points for protection, performance and usability.
Leaving aside Google Play Protect, the lowest rated products were Ikarus mobile.security and Line Antivirus. Both received just 15,5 points in the tests.
Line Antivirus had 3,5 points for the protection it offers to Android users, while Ikarus got 4 points in the usability tests,
This research shows that relying on Google Play Protect alone might not be the best idea, although as we mentioned earlier, you could follow a few simple tips to avoid malware on your device.
For example, you should avoid downloading and installing applications from unreliable sources. Although malware reaches the Google Play Store every now and then, the main source of malware is third party stores.
I had a virus on Android that was then unknown in most Antiviruses I put (Eset, Kaspersky, G-data Avast, etc) and the only one that had detected it was Dr.Web !!!!!! Respect. You will tell me that you knew you had a virus… I am a programmer and I saw some unusual behaviors in the structure of some files and I put a firewall and saw that some mysterious files were going to connect to unknown servers… Has anyone wondered why there is no simple Firewall and ? E.g. I want to open the application and only when I have it open to connect to the internet and when it is in the background to choose ME whether it will have kept the connection or not φαι I have to sit down to fix it it seems to me ..
