Installing the latest Windows updates can sometimes be disastrous.
So there are many users who prefer not to update their system immediately, to make sure there will be no errors or, in the worst case, not to delete data.
The functional Microsoft's system doesn't have any built-in option to permanently prevent updates from being installed, but there are several ways to do it. One of them is the application Kill-Update.
It's a user-friendly tool that blocks Windows updates without having to do much. The executable is around 350 KB in size and the program is portable, meaning you do not need to install it.
Just run the application with administrator rights (right click on the executable and open as administrator), because it should be managed services of the system.
Kill-Update is running in the background, and you will see a padlock icon on the system tray. Right-click on it and click "Locked". That was it, with two clicks you can prevent Windows updates.
If you want to update Windows, turn off the "Locked" option and it will allow you to update your operating system.
The mobile application does not prevent Windows Defender updates as it has another option that states "Windows Defender Allowed". The setting is not pre-enabled, so make sure you enable it if you are using Windows Defender.
Kill-Update is open source software and Virus Total displays it clean.
