The next big Microsoft update for Windows 10 has started. Windows 10 May 2021 Update focuses on improving remote operation, enables the use of multiple cam for Windows Hello.
The latter will be especially useful for Surface devices whose owners may want to connect a monitor to an additional webcam while working from home.
Here are the new features of the Windows 10 May 2021 Update (version 21H1):
- Media support for Windows Hello to default to an external camera when there are external and internal cameras.
- Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements, such as optimizing scripts for opening documents.
- Windows Policy Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) that updates performance improvements to support remote work.
Microsoft usually releases a major Windows 10 update in the spring, and a smaller one in the fall. The company seems to have reversed this plan for 2021, so the update that will probably be released in October will bring more changes.
The next big update will include new system icons, File Explorer enhancements and more will stop using the icons of the Windows 95 era.
