10 reasons why Windows is better than Linux

There are too many που θεωρούν ότι τα εξακολουθούν να είναι το καλύτερο system and is far superior to Linux. Let's see the 10 main reasons behind their choice.

linux, Windows

Ever had a problem with Windows? Have you ever been frustrated with Microsoft's approach to privacy? Ever wondered why Windows does not see your brand new peripheral?

Are you considering using Linux instead? Probably a factor as to why they're doing so poorly various online forums.

However, all this is far from the truth. If you are considering switching to a Linux-based operating system, read this article and then tell us that you still believe your decision makes sense.

Here are 10 reasons why you should not use Linux.

1. Lack

What are you looking for in an operating system? For most people, the answer is probably ease of use and compatibility. Below we will look at the ease of use. For now, let's focus on compatibility.

Create a list of programs that te daily. Done? He is big. Now compare them with this list of software that is not inherently available on Linux systems:

a. Adobe Photoshop
b. Microsoft Office
c. Dreamweaver
d. 7-Zip
e. Premiere Pro
g. Outlook
or. IrfanView

We could go on, especially on more specialized software for engineers, accountants, lawyers, etc., but we will not. We are sure it does not make sense. Linux users simply do not have access to some of the most widely used applications on the planet but also to several specialized ones. Yes, in some cases you can find similar solutions or use intermediate software such as Wine, but it is generally unreliable. If someone tells you that he has a solution for every case, he is lying.

2. Software updates

Even in cases where Linux software is available, it often lags behind that of Windows.

Why; Consider this: Combined, Windows XP, 7, 8, and 10 account for about 77% of υπολογιστών στον κόσμο σήμερα. Και Linux; Λίγο κάτω από δύο τοις εκατό.

Therefore, companies invest their money mainly in updating the Windows (and Mac) versions first. Certainly, much larger companies can devote on Linux, at a similar pace to Windows, but medium-sized companies (or individual developers) simply cannot run at the same pace on both operating systems.

3. Distributions

linux, Windows

If you want to buy a new machine with Windows, you have only one choice: Windows 10. Sure, there are some small variations like Pro, S and Enterprise, but they are basically all the same products.

But if you are a first time user looking for a new Linux machine, then it 's time to go back to school to read. There are over 600 different Linux distributions to choose from.

You need to study a decent number of them before making the right choice. To make matters worse, some of them are day and night in terms of features, screen to user and ease of use.

The bottom line is that Linux fragmentation is extremely confusing and therefore inaccessible to the vast majority of people.

4. Errors

linux, Windows

Yes, we know, Windows is not perfect. The operating system has bugs, and since Microsoft turned Windows 10 into something that looks like a permanent beta, the issues are arguably worse than ever.

But look at it this way: Windows 10 now runs on half a billion devices. The silent majority has no problem. And there are many who do not speak.

Why? Because Microsoft has an amazing budget and employs hundreds of people whose only job is to test and improve the operating system. Linux does not. Even the most widespread distributions are operated by a team of enthusiastic developers, operating on a smaller budget.

For people with expertise, errors may not be a problem. They have enough knowledge to self-diagnose and solve problems on their own. For casual users, having to troubleshoot Linux would be a disaster.

If you had a magic wand and did 77 percent of it to start using a Linux-based desktop tomorrow, we guarantee you'll see infinitely more posts complaining about things that don't work than you do about Windows.

5. Support

linux, Windows

If something goes wrong with your Windows machine, you have many options. Microsoft itself offers text chat and telephone support, and every computer repair shop technician in the country is familiar with the operating system and how it works.

If you use Linux, you are limited to a few niche companies and dedicated web forums. And in case you do not know, forums are not easy places to get help if you are a "beginner".

6. Drivers

linux, Windows

Windows usually gets the new drivers first, followed by macOS. Linux-based systems will be lucky if they receive drivers. The result is that the Linux community develops open source drivers that ship with Linux distributions.

We respect the people who work on such guides. They do a great job. But the truth is that they are often incomplete or do not have enough features. And because they do not have the official support of the parent company, they will not receive help unless they make it work first.

Again, this is not a problem for Linux fans. Everything is part of the fun. But for regular home users who just want a running computer, it is an unstable situation.

7. Games

linux, Windows

This is probably the most common argument against Linux, and with good reason. Many games never reach Linux for the same reason, many software never bridge the gap: it's not worth the developers' time.

The situation is improving. Steam is working hard to transfer games to Linux, but it is still far behind Windows.

A hardcore gamer would find life on Linux unworkable.

8. Peripherals

This is closely related to game-related issues. Even if you can run your favorite games on Linux, there's a good chance you might not be able to properly control its on-screen controls using your existing peripherals.

The peripheral problem extends beyond the game. Even something as important as a Wi-Fi card can give you problems when you first install a distribution. Do you really want to spend hours playing with commands, repos and resources just to connect to the internet? Again, for most people, the answer is no.

9. Complicated

Linux is complicated. Do not say that it is not. Is! And we're not talking about desktop layout or where to find different settings. A new user can quickly get to these things in a few days.

We talk about using the operating system every day. If you have been using Linux for 20 years, then surely it seems simple. For someone from the Windows plug-and-play world, even something as simple as installing a program requires research. It is not the best.

A real Linux operating system never ends. Things are always complicated and need to be corrected. Most ordinary users do not have the time or inclination to fight a battle with their computer.

When a tech giant takes Linux and runs with it, like Google with its Chrome OS, the results can be amazing. But the distributions you are likely to install are not close to this level of ease of use.

10. Linux installation is difficult

Again, if you're reading this article and shaking your head, you're in the minority. Don't think that everyone is as gifted as you are. For many users, the idea of creating bootable USB drives or installation CDs is overwhelming .

Dual booting, which will probably be used by a fresh Linux user with only one computer, is even more difficult.

Of course, Ubuntu is one of the new distributions available in the Windows Store, so this will help make Linux more accessible. But if you do not use Windows 10 or want to run a non-Ubuntu distribution, it is more difficult than ever.

Linux (probably) is not for you

Let us not be biased. Linux is not bad. If you are a tech savvy person who likes to play, you will probably have a lot of fun. Also, Linux is considered more secure than Windows and in many ways, is more customizable. And finally for some tasks Linux is one way. Like in network penetration testing issues, on servers etc.

However, if you are the type of user who likes to press the power button and has everything running smoothly and without side effects, you should ignore it. If you think Windows occasionally gives you a headache, you haven't seen anything with Linux yet.

  1. Guys, the article says it right since as it says it refers more to beginners or simple users who want to watch a movie, enter facebook, etc.
A friend of mine (just a casual windows user) told him to try linux a few years ago.
It installs an ubuntu version and starts. He accesses the internet with firefox, everything is OK. But when he goes to see a pdf file that he downloaded it wouldn't open it and ask him to choose the appropriate program etc. Don't kid me, it took a long time until he gave up.
Then he goes to connect a printer and another peripheral that worked with windows, jiffy, he tells him to find drivers from a third source because there are no etc, after he spent a lot of time searching in forums (in fact most people mocked him that he did not know) he gives it up .
He goes to play games from those he played on windows, there he ate the big Void, not one of the dozens of games he played on windows was compatible with linux.
So he calls me and says: Wow, what did I do, why do I educate myself like this, what sins do I pay for? Whatever I do, from opening a simple file, from running something, from the computer seeing my peripherals, in everything but in everything I will have a problem, there is almost nothing that I do not have a problem in everything and to do!
So he told me and I formatted him and flashed windows 7 again and suddenly everything was fine! Immediately all the peripherals installed from windows without even putting drivers, internet ready, files all open with the appropriate program immediately and melting into dozens of his favorite games with all patches updated.
He thanked me and told me that he does not do such experiments again.

Of course I have used linux for simple use and it was OK, but until then, for anything more specialized and especially for pc games it is also unsuitable for me.
If someone were to ask me what operating system to use to learn penetration testing, I would recommend Kali linux with my eyes closed, but as the article says, it concerns the simple everyday use, and whatever we say, windows offer a much better user experience, it is just followed by mockery from the era of windows 95-98 with sticking, blue screens etc which is not valid now with windows 10/11, it must be understood by some who show the whole video with windows 98 that took out a blue screen in a presentation, we have 2022 and they do not have crashes and blue screens (very rarely), nor does your computer suddenly shut down to do updates or anything, you have it all with one click without having to bother with command lines and lotteries for something that happens in windows with a simple click. I repeat that what I am saying refers to ordinary - everyday users and not hard core users who want to deal with hacking etc.
Of course the majority of users are ordinary users doing their daily routine surfing the web, watching movies, listening to music, reading, playing games.

    • First of all, thanks for the comments. Different opinions on the matter exist even among the people who run iGuru. Let me just add that Windows is a one-way street for large professional companies, not just for ordinary users.

The reason is that automation programs such as Siemens' scada, do not run on linux. So large infrastructures like metros, railways, airports, ports, factories etc that automate their work with Siemens scada (remember the metro and Siemens scandal?) have Windows Server. Unless you don't want to put Siemens or RockWell or General Electric products in your company and you want to put the “Yagamoto” brand (https://automationforum.co/leading-12-scada-software/).

And it's not just scada, but a bunch of other industrial systems, like CAD-CAM systems, or professional design like solidworks that you design from a yogurt case to a gun bolt or a missile part, and then you give it to the industry and he manufactures it in an automatic machine.

And if you ask the IT professionals who run the security of all these companies, they will tell you that Windows keeps getting hacked and that's why they keep getting patched because Microsoft has a lot of people to research and patch, while the linux that doesn't get hacked is still full of holes which no one bothers to find. Consequently, Windows is more trusted on such extensive and critical systems.

linux is fine for certain systems, cumulatively much less than windows and that's about it. But they are by no means a panacea, neither one nor the other.

  2. They just got used to it.
All my arguments seem one-sided, the fact that windows is the most common we knew.
My mother never managed to learn windows, it was much easier with linux.
Her complaints after using both functional.

    - In windows he deleted the "shortcut" and believed that the corresponding software was completely deleted from the PC.

    - He learned to uninstall software and in the search he still found files from the software.

    - After each update the edge was again the default browser.

    - How many times did he try not to have the password from the microsoft account in the login.

    - When he finally logged in the pin and wanted to change it, he was looking for it for how long.

    - It took out the synchronization data with cloud as a security problem, when it activated it had in the file manager "Desktop" and "Desktop". Many times because of this he lost files.

    - She had never been able to choose when to do an upgrade, so she closed the laptop to go to work and update without even asking.

All he wanted was to watch series.
Linux and learned it all in one week.
As for the offices, they once sent her a .doc file from a public service.
The antivirus took it out as a virus, the offices said it was an old version. He finally opened it with libreoffice.
I decided to format Linux when he called to ask me what the registry is.

      • Yes indeed.
And I almost never managed to be there because of work, so he tried to solve a random tutorial.

I remember that the process for upgrading windows had started. When it stopped at 33% and shut down the laptop. When it reopened it would continue from there (from 33%). The problem is that he opened it, when he sat in a cafe that did not have a charger and just wanted to see replies to mail, the laptop started the update again, it left the message "do not close the laptop" until the upgrade, it was closed by battery. Then it came out repairing windows etc.
Followed a random tutorial and ended up searching the registry.

        Linux saved me,
the only "problem" now is that I do not have 30 unanswered questions every week, and I only receive holiday greetings.
Windows problems in some cases unite families.

  3. Fortunately, there are you who, for reasons that are indifferent to me, write or republish (!) Such articles and fatally irritate people who have a real and thorough opinion, with the result that the rest of us, the lucky ones, read a little truth.

  4. Also Dimitris. If it is to present someone else's opinions for your own, it would be good not to just do a translation of the article you found but to tell us that the article is someone else's. But I have to admit and congratulate you on that, the translation of the article is excellent. You got a job not funny. At least the translation is not a genuine google translation. And for proof:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/forget-linux-use-windows/

At least you changed the photos. The embedded video though?
    Pity

  5. I understand the purpose of the article, but it rather confuses and discourages a new user than helps him in something.

The target audience of the article will probably not be a master of Photoshop, nor will they make productions with Premiere Pro (I will not even mention that 7zip and IrfanView are used as arguments), while MS Office is right , as it is a serious shortcoming for most. The user who is thinking of going to Linux is not a gamer, nor will he go and put Arch as a beginner, to break it after an update. An Ubuntu / Mint will set up where everything will be ready and functional. Probably more functional than Windows.

I would not like to expand further, but the next time you try to be objective it would be good to present serious arguments for both sides of the coin. I'm sorry to read an article written like a company press release.

  6. Admittedly a very good commercial. Even Nadella would not write something so "wonderful".
Moving away from aphorism, we go to some essentials. The windows license costs (I'm not talking about the "licenses" of 10 €, but the official ones), while linux is free (I'm not talking about red hat).

In windows to see an old scanner and printer, we have to say the despot, Panagiotis. In linux we see it as a general purpose printer - scanner, at once.

In windows we have lost files. In linux, never.
For the average user (ie 70-0% of computers) who want to watch a video, listen to the radio, read any news, enter the favabook or open / write a letter, linux is completely unproblematic.

Its updates are more frequent than windows, it does not need 7-zip as it compresses / decompresses everything, it does not need the (official) very expensive office since libre-star etc offices are more powerful in every way from MS office, does not need very expensive photoshop since Gimp is also powerful etc etc.

Finally, yes. The nonsense for the average command line user is coercive. But isn't the use of the power shell equally unknown to the average user?

Finally YES! Linux fragmentation is THE big issue of linux. But we have democracy (?) So everyone can "speak their language", set up their own desktop, try out their own (sometimes innovative) proposals to the computer community.
So, for the average computer user, using a linux is completely hassle-free and completely comfortable, without the need for any special familiarity.

ps. the mentioned photoshop, premiere and dreamweaver that do not run on windows belong to the same company. At Adobe. So, closing out, as I started, “not even Narayeen, Adobe Ceo, would set up such a great commercial.
George do not grumble, it is not a matter of wallet, but a matter of pluralism as you think how (how monotonous and boring) the planet would be if all people spoke English (beeeee) or if all people were white, 1.90 with green eyes and black hair.

    • Three pc at home. One desktop and two laptops. One laptop with Kali. The article is general and is aimed at dummies.

I insist that new users and those who do not have the appetite to deal with computers, rather than doing their standard job as easily as possible, it is better to go to Windows.

This does not apply to you and me.

      • The fact that one laptop has Kali on it says absolutely nothing. Thereafter. The new user who does not know what is happening to him with what he learns will find it easier. And I bring you as an example my 78-year-old father who, while working as a professor of philology and then as a high school teacher, had not touched any keyboard other than the typewriter. After he retired he found out that he could find fellow students etc on facebook, he found out that he wanted to write things, and much more. So he needed a computer. Due to financial constraints, the only machine available was an old laptop with minimal capabilities, which could not "lift" Windows of any version except the XP. So a nice Xubuntu came in and the rest as they say is history. He used the laptop for about 4 years. When we finally got to get him a new one and he first tried Windows 10 the first question was: Can't we do it like the other? Xubuntu is back and dad is happy, and I know even more why I do not need to do regular virus tests, I did not have to eat two hours of my life to do debloating, and most importantly I do not need to hear every three or so moans because suddenly shut down the laptop to update, or why it is crawling, or why the antibiotic is throwing messages all the time. For those who do not want to bother I will totally agree that if it is an old (but simple) user it is not for linux. But for someone who is a new user then goes to the above category and if he does not want to deal then either put windows or some simple linux distribution is one and the same. Suppose that with linux it is even more secure as a point because the app stores (generally and abusively I use the term) of linux definitely have tested software in relation to the Windows app store. For the history I have been working since 2003 as a domain administrator and I have worked extensively with almost all versions of both windows servers until 2016 and all versions of windows except windows 8 / 8.1. Personally for me the turning point was the 8 amps where the interface was really tragic, and the final blow was the pointless changes to the interface, the incredibly bloatware, the updates, and my worst bad habit that the 10 amps used to have after big updates to reset the settings I had made to the defaults that MS wanted. Some of them were fixed, some of them got worse, I no longer deal with windows servers at work and I can not imagine my desktop with 10 arias even in my worst nightmare. I apologize for the extensive answer
