A group of hackers say they've managed to modify the 3DS handheld's code to allow anyone interested to play gamea that are imported from different regions than their own.
Those interested in the process should have the 4.5 firmware or earlier and access a DS flashcard, according to the magazine The Escapist .
The mod has been carefully crafted so that you can't play bootleg game roms (ROMs) but only genuine games intended for a different geographic zone than yours (which means a jailbroken 3DS can't become a device which plays pirated titles).
Nintendo has made it clear that they don't want to remove the region lock from the 3DS and will likely release new firmware for the machine which will make the current hack obsolete.
