Airbus buys Walker S2 humanoid robot

Airbus has ordered Walker S2 humanoid robots. This was posted on social media by Chinese company UBTech Robotics on Sunday, the country’s Communist Party newspaper reported. A cooperation agreement stipulates that the robots will be used in Airbus factories. UBTech shares then rose sharply on Monday.

On the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, shares rose more than eight percent – ​​although UBTech did not disclose details, such as how many robots Airbus has ordered or when they are due to be delivered.

According to the Communist Party newspaper Global Times , the company received orders for humanoid robots worth a total of 173 million euros last year, making it the global market leader in this field.

Over the summer, UBTech taught its Walker S2 humanoid robot to automatically replace its batteries, allowing these robots to operate almost continuously around the clock.

Two lithium batteries provide the necessary power supply, but it takes about an hour and a half for a full charge. The robots are designed with a dual battery system, so one of them can be replaced without interrupting operation. One unit provides power for two hours of operation or about four hours of work in a standing position.

UBTech was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Shenzhen, southern China. In late 2023, the company was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Since then, UBTech has not published any new press releases on its website.
