But Amazon internal documents show that 25 percent of users do not use the device after a week.
Amazon sells a lot of smarts Appliances voice-controlled Alexa every holiday season since 2015. In 2020, the company reported that 25% of US households have at least one Alexa device, while homethose who have Amazon Prime, reach 27%. However, the company found that the devices were not being used for long.
Most users who have been using Alexa voice control devices in recent years are playing music, setting the timer in cooking, or turning on the lights.
The news site Bloomberg managed to acquire internal documents Amazon that provide information about Alexa. Amazon employees report in one of these documents from 2019 that new Alexa users discover half of the features that exist within three hours of activating the device.
According to this internal data, there have been years where 15% to 25% of new Alexa users turned off the device in the second week. Internal documents planning that Bloomberg has repeatedly cited concerns about user retention and engagement.
The documents, which cover 2018 to 2021, detail Amazon's ongoing ambitions for Alexa, such as plans tocase more cameras and sensors that will allow devices to recognize different voices or determine which rooms users are in during each interaction.
The documents also reveal the obstacles the company sees in achieving these goals. Last year, Amazon found in an internal market analysis that it had passed the main growth phase and that sales would only grow by 1,2% per year in the coming years.
