Canonical has just released the Ubuntu LTS 26.04.1, the first of several point releases that Ubuntu 26.04 LTS will receive. This update brings together all the updates since April and gives users a new ISO image to use with fewer updates after installation, allowing you to save time. Most importantly, this update now opens the upgrade path for those still using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to move to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.

Regarding the upgrade status, Canonical decided to wait until the first point release to allow upgrades, so that the initial bugs have been fixed. This will please users coming from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and requiring stability before upgrading. Of course, the impatient could upgrade between the two versions by adjusting Ubuntu settings, but for maximum stability, waiting until today was the right path.

If you have Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, you don't need to download the new ISO image, just open the update manager and apply any available updates.

If you want to check which version of Ubuntu you're running, you can do so by opening Settings > About. If you're on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and don't want to upgrade yet, that's okay. You'll still receive mainstream updates from Canonical until 2029, so there's still plenty of time.
