Disable Google AI in search

Google continues to push AI services into its core products. Just a few months ago, it began rolling out AI Overviews. In July, Google reported that the feature had already reached over two billion monthly users.

Now it's time for the next step, AI Mode in Google Search, which turns the Chrome browser into an AI-powered browser.

Of course, not everyone likes the integration of Artificial Intelligence into Google Search. Artificial Intelligence can be useful, but it can also be a hindrance, especially if it provides information that is not accurate. It happened in the past and it will happen in the future.

Bye Bye Google AI is a browser add-on that gives you control over AI features. Google doesn't provide options to disable Artificial Intelligence content in Google Search, which this extension fixes.

The extension displays its options immediately after installation in a compatible browser. It is available for browsers based on Chromium, which covers most browsers. Installation in Chrome works flawlessly, and it should also work in other browsers based on Chromium, such as Brave, Edge, or Vivaldi.

AI Overviews are only selected by default. This displays information generated by Artificial Intelligence when you run certain searches in Google Search. With the extension you can hide certain types of content in Google Search, namely:

  • AI Mode tab for deeper AI interactions.
  • Discussions and Forums.
  • Sponsored links.
  • Shopping blocks.
  • People also ask.
  • People also search for.
  • Video blocks.
  • Feature snippets.

Only AI Mode is related to Artificial Intelligence, while the rest of the options are for content blocks that Google Search often shows. It's a good option to get rid of things that are not useful to you. If you never shop online, you could use the shopping blocks for example.

It should be noted that the extension uses CSS commands to hide the ones you select. It doesn't actually disable them, as Google doesn't provide such options.
