Elwood Edwards who voiced AOL's famous 'You've Got Mail!' died at the age of 74.
Those with white or gray hair will remember this. At the beginning of the internet age AOL email was the most famous email service along with Yahoo. When you received an email and had your computer equipped with speakers, you would hear the warning message 'You've Got Mail!' (You have a message).
Elwood Edwards was an announcer at a time when many users were just starting to learn how to navigate the Internet and the voice of AOL's “You've Got Mail” alert that earned him anonymous fame and a guest role on “The Simpsons ".
It also spoke the rest of AOL's messages, including “Welcome”, “Files done”, “Goodbye” and “Welcome”.
Elwood Edwards died Tuesday at his home in New Bern, New York, at age 74 of a stroke.
