EU from December 28 charging with USB-C only

From tomorrow, December 28, a large percentage of gadgets are purchased within they should be charged via USB-C.

The objective of Directive 2022/2380, colloquially known as the common solution , is to reduce e-waste and solve market fragmentation. You may remember that Apple and the EU were at odds a few years ago.

However, the requirement for USB-C is just scratching the surface of this directive.

Directive 2022/2380 also includes regulations for fast , την αποδέσμευση από charging ( Banks) and the introduction of improved labelling.

The European Commission reports

11) It is technically possible to designate the USB Type-C connector as a common charging connector for the relevant classes or classes of radio equipment, mainly because they are already able to include such a connector. USB Type-C technology, which is used worldwide, has been adopted at an international standardization level and has been transferred to the European system by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (Cenelec) in the framework of the European standard series EN IEC 62680-1-3:2021

(13) Regarding charging by means other than wired charging, divergent solutions could be developed in the future, which may have negative effects on interoperability, consumer convenience and the environment. Although it is premature to impose specific requirements on these solutions at this stage, the Commission should take action to promote and harmonize these solutions in order to avoid fragmentation of the internal market in the future.

The new regulation has the potential to make life much simpler for gadget lovers in the EU.

If implemented, of course.

  1. Good morning and happy new year with health. My friend Andreas, since 1989 when I bought my first computer, until today, in order to be able to cope with the demands of software - games, I have spent the world's money and changed at least 7 computers or graphics cards, memories, hard drives, etc. etc. Let's not talk about mobile devices - smartphones. I imagine the rest of the world works like that, Not to say that most people do it for prestige reasons only, without being required. So your comment about e-waste due to upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 is INVALID to say the least. It is hypocritical to work against the environment from the day you are born and to demonize the 1%, while 99% of what you use every day burdens it.

  2. Microsoft that wants us to throw away all the old computers that work fine windows 10 to install windows 11 with artificial intelligence and a ruffian operating system does not create electronic waste???? Our straws and chargers were withering…….. Hypocrisy…..Supposedly the climate, supposedly the pollution of the planet and green excuses…….
