In 2016, Microsoft was looking towards 3D. It unveiled the HoloLens technology and wanted its software to offer 10D features as well. That was also the reason why the company started a refresh of the Paint app in Windows XNUMX by releasing it Paint 3D in October 2016.
The app was designed to completely replace the older Paint app on Windows 10.
However, the reception for the new Paint 3D application did not go as expected and Microsoft continued to support the older Paint application alongside Paint 3D. In 2021, the release of Windows 10 build 21332 removed Paint 3D from clean installations of the operating system.
Three years after the Paint 3D app was removed from new installations of Windows 10 n company decided to remove it from the Microsoft Store after November 4th. Updates to the app will also expire on that day.
The retirement of Paint 3D comes as Microsoft continues to add new features to the regular Windows 10 and 11 Paint app.
Windows Insiders have been seeing new features for the past few months. So you'll soon see a new size slider for pencils, brushes and eraser tools, along with some new features for the pen and eraser options.
